Grandparents Day
Hello all!
What a great week! Thank you so much for your prayers and encouragement. We are off to a great start and are “Moving Forward” in this 2022-2023 school session!
I wanted to make you aware that next Friday, September 16, 2023 is our special Grandparents’ Day Luncheon and Chapel Service. Make sure you let your child(ren)'s grandparents know that they are invited to join us for a day of honoring and celebrating them!
All grandparents will check in at the office and we will call the grandchild(ren) to come up and greet them and take them back to the classroom or to the cafeteria to join them for the activities of the day.
Here is a schedule of what will take place:
10:45 – 11:45 – Our K-5th graders will eat lunch and have recess. Grandparents may come anytime between 10:40 and 11:05 to connect with their elementary aged grandchild(ren) and eat lunch with them. Friday is Pizza Day! Please call the office to let us know how many will be coming in to eat lunch so we can order the appropriate amount of pizza. In addition, there will be a salad bar with all the fixins’ for our grandparents. Lunch for grandparents is complimentary! After lunch, grandparents may accompany their grandchild(ren) to recess and back to the class to see their classrooms and meet their teacher and classmates. They may stay with them until chapel.
11:45 – 12:45 – Our 6th-12th graders will eat lunch. Grandparents may come anytime between 11:40 and 12:05 to connect with their middle and high school aged grandchild(ren) and eat lunch with them. Again, pizza and salad will be served. After lunch, grandparents may accompany their grandchild(ren) to chapel. If a grandparent has grandchildren in multiple grades, they are welcome to stay through all appropriate lunch times.
1:00 – 1:50 – K-12 Special Grandparents’ Day Chapel – This special chapel will be student led. Our Student Government Officers will be the masters/mistresses of ceremony and our elementary classes will each share a special that they have prepared to honor grandparents.
2:00 – 3:15 – We have the opportunity to host an author visit with Jonathan Miller, a children’s author who has written a series of books about Sammy the Wonder Dachshund, a fact checker for the internet. He will be in the gymnasium for 2 different presentations and book signings. The 4th and 5th graders will hear his first presentation from 2:00-2:40 while the K-3rd graders have music class, and then the K-3rd graders will hear his presentation from 2:40-3:15 while the 4th-5th graders have music class. Again, grandparents are welcome to join the classes for these presentations. (See the attached fliers for more information!)
Our Student Government Officers will be assisting with the day. Friday is our “jeans day” for teachers, so please let your grandparents know that dress is casual.
If your child does not have a grandparent in the area, you as parents are welcome to join them for the event or to invite someone to come as your child’s guest. But, if no one is able to come, please know that there will be many students without grandparents or parents here and the classroom teachers will make sure that they are well taken care of. We may “buddy up” some with a friend who has a grandparent guest here.
When you enter the chapel, the auditorium will have sections marked off by grade level. Please have grandparents sit with their child’s designated grade. There will be a section marked off for grandparents with children in multiple grades to sit together as a family.
Again, we look forward to this opportunity to honor our grandparents and highlight our students in this special chapel service. Please call (540-868-1231) or email (mvcaofc@ccmv.com) the office to let us know how many will be attending. Hope to see you then!
